Master Plan

Karachi Fish Harbour (KFH) constructed by Federal Government in 1959.
Fisheries became the Provincial subject upon promulgation of 1973 Constitution of Pakistan & subsequently KFH was handed over to Sindh Government in 1974.
KFHA came into existence through promulgation of KFHA Ordinance 1984.
KFH was upgraded in 1992 with collaboration of European Union (EU).

Acquire, hold control & administer movable/immovable property.
Dispose of any property.
Formulate & enforce any scheme for the purpose of this Ordinance.
Incur expenditure for carrying out the purpose of this Ordinance.
Enter into & perform contracts.
Undertake planning, designing & supervision of construction works required for harbour.
Undertake efficient operation of harbour and carry out maintenance & repairs.
Provide plots of land to private individuals or firms for establishment of BBY, fish industry, ice plants & other related ancillary activities.
Procure necessary equipment for its functioning.
Provide for navigational channel, fish handling jetties, berthing facilities & prescribe T&C and charges thereof.
Registration of fishermen, fish dealers, transporters including their transport & fees for registration.
Take such steps as may be necessary or conducive to the attainment of its objectives.

KFH is a natural & only operational Harbour of Pakistan, which provide all facilities like, channel, auction halls, landing pier, slipway, boat construction/repair yard, etc.
KFH handles more than 600 MT daily catch.
More than 20,000 people visit harbour daily.
Employment to more than 200,000 people.
80% of fish export process from KFH out of
total US$ 500 million per annum.
30% of fresh water catch processed & exported from KFH.

KFH was up-gradated in 1992 with financial assistance of EU.

KFHA facilitates for Computerized Cards to harbour users

As part of its commitment to improving sanitation, safeguarding public health & ensuring compliance with international Sanitary & Phytosanitary (SPS) standards, the KFHA has engaged the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) for comprehensive solid waste management services at KFH.
The scope of work includes:

Daily sweeping, cleaning & washing of roads & common areas;

Collection of solid waste from designated locations within harbour

Transportation of collected waste; and

Environmentally safe disposal of garbage outside the harbour premises on a daily basis.

The initiative has significantly improved the overall cleanliness, sanitation & environmental conditions of KFH.
It supports compliance with international food safety, hygiene and SPS requirements, thereby promoting hygienic fish handling and improved harbour management.

In 2007, FVO Mission of EU visited KFH & de-listed all processing units
For export of fishery products to EU countries due to a number of deficiencies found in the landing sites, fishing boats & Processing Plants.
Subsequently, GOS took major development initiatives addressing the concerns of EU including completion of an ADP scheme in 2012 costing Rs.507.865 M.
The scheme involved modification 539 fishing boats & introduction of handling equipment at landing & auction sites such as, plastic crates, insulated plastic containers, steel hydraulic trolleys, etc.
As a result, EU lifted the restriction in March 2013 & allowed two companies to export fishery products to EU countries. Currently, four processing plants are EU approved.
